Generic HVAC clamp meter beside an air conditioning service panel

Fluke 902: What the Fluke Documents State

Quick answer

  • Measures: AC and DC voltage to 600 V, AC current to 600 A, DC current to 200.0 µA, resistance, continuity, Type-K temperature and capacitance from 1 µF to 1000 µF, per the 902 datasheet.
  • Wireless: the 902 FC datasheet describes a wireless version that connects to the Fluke Connect app.
  • Safety: the two datasheets do not agree. The 902 datasheet gives CAT III 1000 V and CAT IV 600 V in one place and CAT III 600 V in another. The 902 FC datasheet gives CAT III 600 V / CAT IV 300 V in one place and CAT III 1000 V / CAT IV 600 V under IEC 61010-2-032 in another.
  • Status: the Fluke product page we opened shows a Discontinued label.

What the 902 measures

The 902 datasheet lists a table of ranges and accuracies. DC voltage runs from 0 to 600.0 V at 1% plus 5 counts. AC voltage runs from 0 to 600.0 V, true-RMS, at 1% plus 5 counts for 50 Hz and 60 Hz. AC current runs from 0 to 600.0 A, true-RMS, at 2.0% plus 5 counts for 50 Hz and 60 Hz. DC current runs from 0 to 200.0 µA at 1.0% plus 5 counts.

Resistance runs from 0 to 9999 Ω at 1.5% plus 5 counts. The datasheet also lists continuity at 30 Ω or less. Temperature is measured with a Type-K thermocouple from -10 °C to 400 °C at 1.0% plus 0.8 °C, and from -40 °C to -10 °C at 5.0% plus 1.5 °C. Capacitance runs from 1 µF to 1000 µF at 1.9% plus 2 counts. The datasheet lists a three-year warranty and two AA alkaline batteries.

The product page describes the 902 as designed for HVAC applications, with capacitance, DC current in microamps and temperature measurements. Those three functions are the ones a buyer should check against their own service work.

The 902 FC: wireless, not the same meter

The 902 FC datasheet is a separate document. It describes a wireless HVAC clamp meter that can transmit results to the Fluke Connect app, with min and max recording and an auto shut-off. The datasheet describes connecting the meter to Fluke Connect to capture measurements wirelessly. It also lists a radio-frequency certification section.

If you want a wireless link, the FC is the model the datasheet describes. If you want the basic meter without a wireless link, the standard 902 datasheet is the one to compare. Check the model designation and part number on the box, because the two datasheets carry different specifications and different safety statements.

Safety ratings and what they mean

Work on mains circuits can kill. A category rating states the highest transient voltage and voltage to earth a meter is designed for in that category. It is not a promise that the meter is safe on every circuit in that category. Match the category to the point where you are measuring.

The 902 datasheet states “CAT III 1000 V, CAT IV 600 V” in its safety section. Earlier in the same document it describes the meter as having “a CAT III 600 V rating”. The product page also says “a CAT III 600 V rating”. The 902 FC datasheet states “CAT III 600V / CAT IV 300V” in its feature list, and in its safety section it lists “IEC 61010-2-032: CAT III 1000 V / CAT IV 600 V” and “IEC 61010-2-033: CAT III 1000 V / CAT IV 600 V”. Fluke’s documents do not reconcile these figures in the pages we opened.

Because the documents disagree, do not treat the 902 as rated for a particular category until you have read the safety sheet that ships with your unit. If the category of your work is CAT III or CAT IV, confirm the rating in writing with Fluke before you use the meter on that circuit. If you are unsure of the category of a panel or service entrance, call a licensed electrician. Panel and service work belongs to a licensed electrician.

Battery and build

The 902 datasheet lists two AA alkaline batteries. The 902 FC datasheet lists two AA alkaline batteries, NEDA 15A and IEC LR6. The FC datasheet gives IP30 for the non-operating state only, so that figure does not describe the meter in use. Read the operating conditions in the datasheet before you use the meter outdoors.

Skip if

  • You need the product to be available new from Fluke. The product page we opened shows a Discontinued label, so check current stock before you plan a job around it.
  • You need a true-RMS meter rated clearly for a CAT IV location. The two datasheets do not agree on that figure, and the product page cites CAT III 600 V.
  • You need a wireless link and you have bought the standard 902. The wireless function belongs to the 902 FC datasheet, not the standard model.

How we chose

This article covers the Fluke 902 family: the standard 902 and the wireless 902 FC. It uses three documents opened on 27 October 2026: the 902 datasheet, the 902 FC datasheet and the 902 product page. The criteria are the ranges, ratings and statuses those documents publish. It does not rank the 902 against other HVAC meters, and it does not describe any test by the author.

What we could not verify

  • The sources do not settle the category rating. The two datasheets and the product page give different figures, as described above.
  • The sources do not state the current price, the stock position or the warranty status of the product in any country.
  • The sources do not state the weight or the size of the 902 or the 902 FC.
  • The sources do not give the accuracy of the temperature probe in the wireless model separately from the standard model.

FAQ

What does the Fluke 902 measure?

Voltage to 600 V, current to 600 A, DC current to 200.0 µA, resistance, continuity, Type-K temperature and capacitance from 1 µF to 1000 µF, according to the 902 datasheet.

Is the 902 a true-RMS meter?

Yes. The datasheet labels the AC voltage and AC current measurements as true-RMS, and the product page describes True RMS technology.

What is the difference between the 902 and the 902 FC?

The 902 FC datasheet describes a wireless meter that connects to the Fluke Connect app. The standard 902 datasheet does not describe a wireless link.

What CAT rating does the 902 carry?

The documents disagree. The 902 datasheet gives CAT III 1000 V and CAT IV 600 V in one section and CAT III 600 V in another. The product page cites CAT III 600 V. Confirm the rating for your model before use.

Is the Fluke 902 still sold?

The Fluke product page we opened shows a Discontinued label. Check Fluke’s current catalogue before you buy.

What batteries does the 902 use?

Two AA alkaline batteries, according to both datasheets.

Bottom line

The Fluke 902 is an HVAC True-RMS clamp meter with capacitance, microamp DC current and Type-K temperature ranges on its published list. The wireless 902 FC is a separate model in Fluke’s datasheets. Before you buy, check whether the unit is still available, confirm which model you have, and read the category rating on that model’s safety sheet, because Fluke’s own documents do not agree on it.
