Best Digital Multimeter: Six Picks by Counts and CAT

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Details

A digital multimeter is a meter that measures voltage, current and resistance on one display. The two numbers that separate the listings here are the count figure, which sets how finely the display steps, and the CAT rating, which states the circuit category and voltage the meter is built for. The search term names an ALLOSUN model, but none of the ALLOSUN listings in our set is that model, so this post compares six digital multimeters from the set, one of them an ALLOSUN. Research figures were checked on 11 October 2026, and the ALLOSUN pick on 18 October 2026.

Quick answer: for the widest rated voltage, the Fluke 87V and the UNI-T UT161E both list a 1000V ceiling with CAT III and CAT IV ratings. For the finest display in this set, the UNI-T lists 22,000 counts, and the TESMEN and DEASOMIYE list 6000.

How we chose these six

We kept multimeters whose listing states a count figure and a rating, and we spread the set across the count levels so that the reader can compare them. Each card below uses the listing’s own figures. Where a listing gives no rating, we say so rather than fill it in.

  • Counts: the display count the listing states. A higher count gives finer steps on the same range.
  • Rating: the CAT category and voltage in the specs field or bullets, as written.
  • Features: auto or manual ranging, live wire detection and the other functions the listing names.

Some candidates did not make the six. The AstroAI clamp meter (B0DB23PPHL) is a clamp meter first, and it cannot test DC current. The NJTY T3 gives 4000 counts, and the Lscsdf kit lists 6000 counts without a rating. The Innova 3340 is aimed at automotive circuits. The ALLOSUN EM3218A listing gives no count figure, so we used the EM3082, which states its reading limit.

Worked example: how fine is each display step?

A display step is the full-scale value of a range divided by its count. The listings do not give full-scale figures for every setting, so the arithmetic below assumes a 1000 V full-scale range for the Fluke only. On a 1000 V range, a 6000-count display steps by about 0.17 V (1000 divided by 6000). On the Fluke’s 20,000-count setting, the same range steps by 0.05 V (1000 divided by 20,000). Check the range scale on the meter before you rely on the step size.

For a rated ceiling, take an 800 V circuit. Among the six, only the Fluke and the UNI-T list a 1000 V ceiling. The DEASOMIYE style name reads up to 600V, and the Neoteck lists CAT III 600V. The TESMEN and the ALLOSUN give no voltage ceiling in their fields. A 800 V reading is therefore inside the Fluke and UNI-T figures and outside the 600 V figures of the other listings that state one.

What the listings do not say

None of the listings reports an independent accuracy test. The Fluke’s 250 µS capture figure and the Neoteck’s accuracy bands are the sellers’ own statements. The UNI-T’s Bluetooth and USB accessories are described in different fields. The TESMEN and ALLOSUN listings give no CAT rating in the fields we read, so do not assume a rating from the look of the meter. Check the rating and the accessories on the box before you buy.

Frequently asked questions

Does a higher count number mean a better meter?

A higher count gives finer steps on the same range, but the count alone does not show accuracy. The Neoteck lists accuracy bands, the Fluke and UNI-T list CAT ratings, and none of the listings gives a test result.

Which of these meters lists a 1000 V ceiling?

The Fluke 87V and the UNI-T UT161E both list a 1000 V ceiling, with CAT III and CAT IV ratings. The DEASOMIYE, Neoteck and the other listings give lower figures or none.

Which of these meters ranges automatically?

The DEASOMIYE T21D is described as auto-ranging, and the TESMEN TSM-599 runs in an auto mode. The Neoteck VC746A can switch between manual and automatic ranging, and the ALLOSUN EM3082 title says auto range.

Why do some listings give no CAT rating?

The TESMEN and ALLOSUN listings give safety marks in their fields, but no CAT category in the fields we read. A CAT rating states the circuit category and voltage a meter is built for, so look for it on the meter or the package before you use the meter on mains circuits.

Is the ALLOSUN model in the search term in this set?

No. The search term names an ALLOSUN model, and that model is not among the listings we checked. The ALLOSUN EM3082 is the closest ALLOSUN listing in this set. Its listing gives a 1999 maximum reading and no CAT rating.

Conclusion

For a meter rated to 1000 V, the Fluke 87V and the UNI-T UT161E are the two listings to compare, with the UNI-T giving the higher count figure. For 6000-count meters, the TESMEN TSM-599 (auto and manual modes) and the DEASOMIYE T21D (auto-ranging) are the closer fit. For a small pocket meter, the ALLOSUN EM3082 is the one to look at. Check the rating and the count against the circuits you will test.
